The Asquith Garde Fencing Associationby Doug Brecht, PresidentThe Asquith Garde had a very successful season in 1995-96. We had 10 competitive fencers and expect to have even more for 1996-97. We attended all the provincial tournaments last year and will be doing the same this season. We have an enthusiastic crop of beginner fencers, who after attending our own event in May 1996 are anxious to continue in the competitive stream this year. Our tourney was such a success that we will be hosting a provincial event in the 1996-97 season. It will follow the same format as last year, with a novice foil event, open events in the other weapons, and our duelling event. We hope to get more out-of-town fencers attending this year, and would like to thank the Regina and Saskatoon fencers, and the parents of our local students for helping to make our past event a success. |

Saskatoon Fencing Club - Summer Reportby John BrunningI hope that everyone had a good summer break and is recharged for the up coming season. It seems just like yesterday that we were preparing for the Nationals in Ottawa. 12 Saskatoon fencers competed at the Nationals and their results are appended to this report.Congratulations to all who went especially Amber Bakos for her bronze medal in Cadet women's foil and Lavinia Surdu, Erin Parchello, Amber Bakos and Laurie Karchewski for their Silver medal in Women's team foil. Since the Nationals we have held two bingo's this summer and will be holding a third on August 27th. We have participated in several clinics: Clavet, Lashburn, Langbank, and the 4-H camp at the Rayner Centre near Birsey. Thanks to Virgilio "Tony" Vasquez, Laurie Karchewski, Carol-Lynne Mould and John Brunning. We resume training September 4th, and 5th at 7:00 p.m. We will also be participating in the Broadway street fair Saturday September 7th. Our beginner registration will be September 16, 18, 19 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. We will be advertising for Jeux Canada games aged fencers (born 1982 or later). The more fencers we have to choose from the stronger team we will have as a club and as a province. We still need one more executive Member for this season to fill the portfolio of Fund raising and will have a meeting after registration to hold an election. Anyone interested contact one of the current executive: John Brunning (President), Rainy Bakos (Secretary/Registrar), Cathy Coode (Treasurer), Robert Anderson (Equipment). Nationals Results:National Championships Ottawa June 5th-9th, 1996
