First off, I am announcing some changes in the distribution of this newsletter. It costs about as much to mail out individual newsletters as it costs to print them. I am therefore imposing on the Club Directors to distribute as many SaskSword as they can in the Salles of their respective centres. As a second cost saving measure, each fencing family will receive only 1 newsletter. Despite whose name is on the mailing label, it still belongs to the entire family. If you want to photocopy articles or items bearing your name so you can put them in your scrapbook, I personally have no problem with that approach.

This issue welcomes the first column from our new President, Janet Simpson . As an educator and coach, she will find ample use of her talents in directing an organization whose demographics show a large proportion of energetic young people.

Darlene Dudiak shows the parental side of Fencing and the support parents give to our athletes. Robin Massett, Saskatchewan Armourer supreme, continues with "Mask & Blade", giving many invaluable strategies for weapon maintenance and repair. The current junior & cadet rankings are also published, along with a list of what weapons and clothing are required for FIE/CFF tournaments.

The Saskatchewan Fencing community has a large amount of useful information and experience tucked away in the minds of its members. Each of us has something valuable to offer to the sport. I would like to see more of these buried gems coming forth into sunshine and ask for articles, opinions and snippets of humour and information that can be shared.

The deadline for those contributions is anytime before Christmas as I will put things together during the Christmas / New Year's break so that we can start the New Year with a new issue.
