Wrestlers at National Team
Training Camps
(2005 Jan 10) Huskie
Wrestlers Jeff Adamson and Ryley Walker were selected to attend a National
Team training camp at Simon Fraser University for 7 days (Jan. 2nd - 9th).
The camp included the Senior National Team and top Junior National Team
prospects who are competing in March to decide who will compete at the
Junior World Championships in Lithuania in July. Both Walker and Adamson are
in their 2nd year of eligibility and among the top performers on the Huskie
Men's Wrestling Team. In addition, Adamson and Walker will be sent with the
National Team to Colorado Springs in early February for the Dave Schultz
Memorial International. Chris Kulbida, who is taking a year off from the U
of S, is also attending the National Team camp.
Female wrestlers Megan
Buydens and Amy Dyck are away in Colorado Springs, at a Senior National Team
training camp, training with the U.S. National Team. Dyck was identified for
the same reasons as both Jeff and Ryley, as a promising Junior World Team
prospect who will compete in Lithuania at the Junior World Championships.
Buydens, a proven commodity (2 X Junior National Team member as well as
having 3 CIS medals in her first 3 years at the U of S, including 2
Silvers), was selected again to be a part of the Under-23 National Team,
which is geared towards developing the next cycle of Senior National
members. Both Buydens and Dyck were in Colorado from Jan. 2nd - 9th and will
head back to the same destination for the Dave Schultz Memorial
International in early February.
Todd Hinds, Head Coach of
the U of S Huskie Wrestling Team, has also been selected to attend the Dave
Schultz Memorial as part of the National Team Coaching Staff.
Olympian Viola Yanik's
(former U of S wrestler and part time student at the U of S) schedule is set
for the winter months. Viola will resume her international competitive
schedule in February, competing in France Feb. 18-20, while the Huskies are
at the Canada West Championship. Later in March, Viola will go overseas
again to attend 2 international competitions. The first will be in Klippen,
Sweden and the second will be in Naples, Italy. |
