Canada West Championships
Ali Bernard of the Cougars earned a gold medal and two honours on Saturday at the Canada West wrestling championships in Calgary.
After Bernard won all four of her matches to finish first at 80 kilograms, she was named the female wrestler of the meet and the conference's female rookie-of-the-year.
Ali McCannell (gold, 90kg), Hajar Ashtiani (bronze, 48kg), Laura Chabot (bronze, 57kg) and Theresa Bakker (bronze, 65kg) also won medals for Regina's women's team, which finished third in the team race.
On the men's side, Taylor Anderson (gold, 90kg), Jonathan Rice (silver, 61kg), Darryn Larkin-Terzo (bronze, 54kg) and Aaron Frombach (bronze, 76kg) earned medals for the Cougars. Regina tied for fourth in the team event.
Competitors who finished in the top three earned an automatic berth in the CIS championships, March 4-5 in St. Catherines, Ont.

Nine wrestlers from the University of Saskatchewan qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships at the Canada West conference finals in Calgary during the weekend.
Leading the way was Megan Buydens, who captured the Canada West title in the women's 70-kilogram division and was named the recipient of the TSN Award for academic excellence, athleticism and community service.
Amy Dyck, who took the bronze in the 61 kg weight category, was the other female from the Huskies to qualify.
The Calgary Dinos won the team event. Saskatchewan was fifth.
On the men's side, seven Huskies qualified after collecting one gold, five silver and one bronze.
Rookie Keith Folkerson won gold and was named the Canada West male rookie of the year.
Eric Walker (57 kgs), Ryley Walker (65 kgs), Craig Dubray (68 kgs), Jeff Adamson (76 kgs) and Tim Kent (130 kgs) all won silver.
Danny Jutras settled for bronze after suffering a neck injury.
The Simon Fraser University Clan won a tight three-way battle in the men's division to repeat as conference champions. SFU finished with 45 points, three ahead of the Huskies.
The CIS championships are March 4-5 in St. Catherines, Ont.
